NexGen  is looking to add a Chief Estimator to the Steel Division in Phoenix, Arizona!

Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Chief Estimator is responsible for managing the overall bid process for estimating steel projects that are assigned the Steel Division. They will be responsible for pursuing projects throughout their pre-proposal and proposal cycle. He or she is responsible for preparing detailed estimates of structural steel projects to include labor, equipment and material fabrication costs. They must have a good understanding of steel fabrication processes and materials, as well as experience in developing accurate cost estimates. They are responsible for maintaining BuildingConnected bid invitations, creating bid invites to vendors & suppliers, updating bid information and submitting proposal through BuldingConnected portal or other websites, as required.

 

  • The Chief Estimator works closely with the Business Unit Leader, General Superintendent, Safety Department, and Quality Manager to develop bid strategies, resource availability, vendor relationships, safety requirements, quality requirement and project schedules, in order to provide a comprehensive estimate.
  • He or she is responsible for updating the bid logs in Mondays.com, Steel Division folders, Bid Status log in excel as well as other logs or other related documents required to be maintained.
  • Must have a good understanding of erection requirements and procedures to be able to provide accurate cost estimates associated with crane selection, rigging, bracing and general erection of structural and miscellaneous steel.
  • The ability to travel to project sites for preconstruction and construction visits.

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

The most important skill for a structural steel estimator is the ability to accurately estimate the cost of materials and labor. This requires a deep knowledge of materials and labor costs, as well as the ability to calculate the amount of time and resources necessary to complete the project. In order to do this successfully, the estimator must be able to analyze a project from start to finish, identify potential problems and develop strategies for overcoming them.

 

Estimators must be able to communicate effectively with other professionals involved in the project, such as architects and engineers, in order to ensure that the project is completed on budget and on time. By leveraging their knowledge of materials, labor costs and project management, structural steel estimators are essential for successful project completion.

While performing the duties of this position, the team member is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands and arms, reach, and talk or hear.  They are regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.  Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs.  Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.

 

Frequently in a normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled.  Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions.  May be exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives and vibrations.  Noise level on the job site is normally moderate to loud.   Overtime will be required.  Travel will be required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
