NexGen is looking to add a Project Controls Engineer to help support their growing team in a regional office!

The Project Controls Engineer plays a vital role in supporting the financial and project controls functions for commercial concrete construction projects. Reporting to the Project Controls Senior Manager, this position is responsible for managing cost tracking, project documentation, and coordination across multiple teams. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to do several tasks throughout a workday. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, or construction management from an accredited college or university and 1 year of relevant experience, or High School Diploma/GED and 5 years of construction related experience and/or training; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge including the ability to utilize word processing, spreadsheets, software and e-mail.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of cost tracking, scheduling, and quality control standards.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and how various risk factors affect construction
  • Ability to work independently, managing multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Travel up to 10% is required.

What we expect… (Essential Functions)

 

  • Monitor and maintain project budgets, job cost codes, and financial tracking tools. 
  • Support monthly billing cycles, including preparation of pay applications and financial reports. 
  • Assist project teams with schedule tracking and provide cost forecasting support. 
  • Track and improve production tracking best practices for past performance and future projections 
  • Provide support for job cost audits and project-specific cost reporting requirements. 
  • Gain an understanding of the various departments within NexGen and their contributions to the project’s success. 
  • Supports establishing the project forecast baseline and monitoring monthly forecast and spending analysis in accordance with NexGen's policies, procedures, and expectations. 
  • Use different tools and platforms to assist project teams in monitoring potential risks and evaluating their financial impact 
  • Assist the project management team in developing the project cost work breakdown structure and job cost set up
  • Develop project invoice schedule of values
  • Manage the project cost earned vs actual value cost tracker
  • Manage vendor invoices
  • Prepare project change request and customer change orders
  • Trend project cost and report deviations from plan
  • Prepare projects for close-out including review of commitment against actual cost
  • Prepare monthly project financial reports
  • Manager level 3 schedule (MS Project, Primavera experience preferred)
  • Work Experience in quantitative field and/or construction is strongly preferred

Specific vision abilities required include close vision.

 

Generally, normal office environment where noise level is moderate and temperature/humidity is controlled. Overtime may be required.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
